Comments: For fighting wildfires (bush, grass, scrub, etc) only.
Competency:
"Bush firefighter" is the level of competency needed to fight bush and grass fires under direct supervision from an officer. It covers basic safety, an appreciation of fire behaviour, use and care of equipment, procedures and communications, working in a team and working as part of the service.
Assessment and Certification:
You need to be assessed to be deemed competent to BF level. Assessment includes demonstrating practical bush fire fighting skills and answering related questions. Post course tasks must also be completed back at your brigade. The opinions of brigade trainers and officers about your competency is also considered.
Training:
BF theory lessons and practical exercises are organised at the Zone level. Practice and follow up training back at your brigade is vital to you developing your skills to become qualifed at the BF level.

Competency Maintenance:
